Tatum Maris celebrates her first 18 months of life today. My sweet, precious baby girl. She rarely stops smiling and laughs constantly. Her happiness takes my breath away. As an expecting mother my protective instincts were hardwired to fight for my unborn daughter. Despite a hellish pregnancy filled with trauma, I did everything in my power to reduce stress levels and maintain my health and equilibrium. Leaving my daughter when she was less than a month old….and not seeing her again for eight months….irreparably damaged me in ways I cannot even begin to articulate. She spent her first year surrounded by the love of my parents, Theresa, and countless family and friends who showered her with attention and joy. It is not an understatement to say she is my miracle baby who quite literally saved my life.
With his recent kindergarten debut I feel as though much of my blogging focus has centered around Adam. His little sister’s certainly making a name for herself. Tatum’s personality is off the charts. She’s the happiest child with an infectious laugh. Her newest obsession is song and dance– with her version of the ABC’s being her tune of choice– and her dance moves are intense. Sometimes she’ll even do a partial head stand. Never in my life have I seen a child eat as much food as she does. Among her favorites are cole slaw [what?!], green beans, and ice cream sandwiches. Like most younger siblings she idolizes her big brother, always wanting to be where he is. Lately she’s even taken over his old circus tent and made it her hideout. I cannot believe she’s a year and a half already.
Be sure to watch this adorable video of Tatum singing, microphone in hand, for the appreciative audience of my parents. She belts out songs and giggles profusely. Barney [that purple parasite needs to go the way of the dinosaur] inspires her to reveal her inner performer. Isn’t she the cutest thing ever?
With infinite love, gratitude, and respect,
