Taken sometime in the fall of 2003, here I am pictured with my best friends during the year I spent at Ole Miss, Kristin [center] and Sene. Although we usually ate at Old Venice we somehow ended up at Pearl Street– which has now been closed for several years– that night. They were sophomores while I was a freshman. I no longer speak with Kristin and it’s been quite some time since Sene and I last spoke. Perhaps I should see what she’s up to….but I digress. With the help of these two ladies and another dear friend, STiR online magazine was born in ’05. I chose this photo because of its prominent display on the main page for the original STiR.
Defunct after one glorious year, I attempted to revive STiR a year or so ago, but the workload proved too much for me to handle alone. The demand never went away. So many people were wildly enthusiastic about the idea and pledged their time and talents. In the market for a passion project, I decided to act on this opportunity and make it happen. Unlike the last round I am not shouldering this responsibility by myself: there will be an entire editorial staff helping me, at least two of them introduced within the next couple of days. A few members of the former staff will be on board but there will be lots of new faces. Think of those of you who met me after 2006….the possibilities are endless!
Mandy Lauman is somebody you can expect to see frequently in the pages of STiR. She’s got a title but I’ll save that until I officially introduce everyone. 😉
THE MINI ISSUE = January 7th, 2012
OUR OFFICIAL DEBUT = April 7th, 2012
Please let me know as soon as possible if you’d like me to send you a writer’s packet with additional information. STiR is a free, online magazine that accepts a wide variety of articles and also contains an art section. It’s a sassy and opinionated bunch and we don’t shy away from controversy.
With infinite love, gratitude, and respect,
