“All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That’s his.” ~ Oscar Wilde
Allow me to extend my heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to all the moms out there. Whether you relaxed with breakfast in bed, got pampered with a pedicure, took a nap, or went about business as usual….thank you for all that you do. A mother is a woman who raises, nurtures, and guides a child whether it grows within you or not. Let me take this opportunity to tell my own mom how much I love her. MeMae, Aunt Sarah, Maris, Danielle, and all the other women in my life who are Mommies– much love to you all.
Last year I spent Mother’s Day curled up in the fetal position, alone in my apartment in California, weeping. Thank God that chapter of my life is ancient history. My only ‘complaints’ about today involve Tatum’s tummy bug and Adam’s video game snafu. Our morning consisted of brunch at Interim with my beloved parents, cousins [and Kat], and Aunt Sarah & Uncle Tommy. Next, Dad and I took Adam to go see the Robert Downey Jr. movie which made both mother and son very happy campers.
Adam Harrison Reed and Tatum Maris Reed made me a mother. No words even begin to describe the love I have for my two precious children. Hands down, they are the best things I’ve ever done– what a tremendous honor to know I played 50% of the role in their creation!– and the best things I will ever do.
The only card better than our united family’s creation are the cards Adam created for me. Is there anything more precious than your child’s artwork?! He made two cards [with the help of Little John] which you see below. I love the way he nailed my black hair– at least that was its color until several days ago– and glasses. As for my skin tone, perhaps he’s trying to tell me that I belong on Jersey Shore? Or maybe he’s seen too many chola chicks in California? We may never know.

Ashley and I stumbled upon some interesting artwork while scouring the internet to supplement her paper. In case you were wondering– and I know you were– we also discovered who I was in my past life:

Last night I had every intention of inundating your news feeds, emails, and subscription updates with at least half a dozen entries on Cocktails With Hemingway. It will probably be Friday before I get the chance to do so– but at least I have a good excuse. My beautiful, brilliant little sister met me at an undisclosed location for a midnight study session on the eve of her last final for Brit Lit. All I did was brew a pot of coffee and proofread her already fantastic paper, yet I’m always grateful for the opportunity to engage in some academia. Ashley is officially a junior at the University of Memphis now– I am so incredibly proud of her– and the dedication, responsibility, and hard work she consistently delivers never ceases to amaze me.
[[ SIDENOTE: Yesterday I told a certain person in my life that I'd be blogging about them. The only entry published involved Miss Cleo-ish predictions-- and that definitely was not the material to which I was referring. Embarrassing myself around this feller takes a little more than that but I just wanted to clarify in the event that he is reading. ]]

You know these are two of the most intelligent English majors the University of Memphis has ever seen
In other news yesterday, Liam Gallagher had an unfortunate incident with a blue M&M. When I heard of this candy coated mishap– truth be told– I wondered if his afflictions stemmed from a literal piece of candy or some variation of MDMA. The brothers Gallagher should be invincible. My Oasis obsession: going strong for two decades now!
Here’s a whimsical Oasis song guaranteed to put a smile on your face. What exactly is a champagne supernova, anyways? I have a healthy appreciation for bubbly– and I’m a relatively literate space nerd– but I’ve yet to figure out the meaning behind this one.

Let no one weep for me, or celebrate my funeral with mourning; for I still live, as I pass to and fro through the mouths of men.” ~ Quintus Ennuis
Much like MeMae, our beloved Lottie epitomized all that is good in this world. A true class act. Truly irreplaceable. Lala [as Adam called her] left us not even a month after Tatum was born….and I am forever grateful she got to meet Tatum the day before I left for California.

A DATE HAS BEEN SET FOR ADAM’S DEPARTURE FROM CALIFORNIA.
It is soon. That’s all I’ll say. Bapa is going to take him home on the train. Once they’re all aboard and heading east, then you can expect an announcement. He’s finally going to meet his sister…

Aunt Nita, Cousin Josh, and Adam
Adam has lived with Nita, David, and their son, Josh, since the day he was taken from me. He’s been in their home–and an important part of their family– since November 2011.
These photos will stay in Adam’s Tennessee bedroom. I’ll write the emotional, heavy post later. But for now we’ll meet Adam’s California family through pictures.

Day 18: Where are you happiest?
Does anyone else feel like these questions [or at least my answers to them] are getting redundant?
A foolproof way to ensure my happiness? Take me to the beach. Be it Pacific, Atlantic, or Gulf of Mexico…as long as I can gaze at an ocean while hearing the waves crash against the shore.
My godkids love the beach as well. The twins [and their parents] spent spring break in Florida. I adore this picture of them.
